What to prepare before requesting equipment-assisted property help

Access, site conditions, utility locations, materials, and the questions that help a project start right.

Start With the Job, Not the Machine

A tractor or compact loader can move materials and maintain outdoor areas efficiently, but the equipment itself should never determine the scope. Begin by describing the result you want: spreading loose aggregate, refreshing a surface, consolidating debris, or maintaining a usable outdoor space.

A thoughtful property assessment should come before selecting equipment or estimating time.

Know the Ground Conditions

In Florida, sandy soils, saturated areas, hidden depressions, and existing drainage patterns can affect how equipment moves across a property. Take photos after rainfall if possible, note low areas, and identify surfaces that should not be disturbed.

Work that changes drainage, involves regulated excavation, or alters protected land may require permits or properly licensed professionals. That determination is made before any work is agreed to.

Prepare for an Accurate Conversation

Be ready to share approximate dimensions, the address or city, the material involved, how a machine could enter the property, and the desired outcome. Photos from several angles are helpful.

Know whether there are fences, narrow gates, soft ground, landscaping you want protected, or vehicles blocking access. Before any digging or ground disturbance, utilities and Florida 811 requirements must be addressed.

Discuss the Scope Before Scheduling

A responsible estimate should clarify what is included, site access, material delivery, who supplies materials, and what happens if site conditions differ from the initial description.

DJRC evaluates individual inquiries for suitability, local requirements, and appropriate authorization. Not every equipment-related activity is automatically an unlicensed service.
